How to choose wallpaper for painting and how to paint it
What are the wallpaper for painting and paint for them
There are three types of wallpaper that can be painted
Every option has the right to life, the differences lie only, in operational characteristics, the ability to keep fit and correctly respond to shrinkage of the building. For each type of wallpaper under painting, as a rule, the quality of the foundation is important. It should be durable, homogeneous, and most importantly – hygroscopic and with good adhesion.
Obviously, the quality of the surface for wallpaper under painting is of the least importance, because water resistance, antistatic and abrasion resistance ultimately depend on the properties of the paint. An exception is made up of vinyl wallpaper: despite the fact that spraying is further strengthened by paint, it still remains vulnerable to friction and sinks up at increased stresses.
Also, vinyl wallpaper is characterized by the smallest number of color cycles: only 5-6, while glass fiber fabrics and flizelin can be repainted 10-15 times.
The paint for wallpaper should be chosen for water dispersion for interior work. All other qualities are determined solely by their own taste. For example, paint with additives of latex or silicone will be more waterproof, with the higher the gloss, the more strongly expressed hydrophobic properties.
Acrylic based paints are a golden ratio of price and durability, they practically do not lose color, have acceptable abrasion resistance, but do not provide the ability to wash wallpaper. It’s best to refrain from using polyvinyl acetate paint, this is the least qualitative type of coating.
When buying, you must necessarily check with the annotations on the label: Avoid using paints for which the manufacturer does not recommend covering wallpaper of a certain kind, or if the composition is not intended to work with the textured surfaces. It is also advisable to recalculate the area of the planes, painted in different colors, in order to immediately acquire several warrants of the required volume in accordance with the rate of consumption.
What tools do you need to color the wallpaper
When painting the wallpaper, there is a standard set of tools for painting: rollers and brushes of various sizes, trays, paint tape, polyethylene film, bucket with clean water. Also, a spatula or trowel will be useful for coloring hard-to-reach places and adjacent areas. The mixing of the paint is carried out manually using a small rod or a wooden shoulder blade.
The choice of roller and brushes should be taken with maximum responsibility. It will take at least two bugles: one small to color the corners with a permissible width of the coat up to 200 mm and another larger for the main planes; for it it is desirable to install a roller 400-500 mm. The color and ease of use depend on the type and quality of the coil.
The most optimal for relief surfaces are considered rollers made of artificial and natural fur, as well as filament, with the use of which the effect of micro-fabrics is formed. The length of the pile needs to be chosen commensurate with the depth of embossing wallpaper. Velor and foam coats are well suited for fine-textured canvases.
Brushes are better to buy fluey with badger pile as soft as possible. The synthetic bristle is also well suited for working with water dispersion paints, but it should not be rough. Brushes of two sizes are required: 20 mm for thin lining and 80-100 mm for edging of corners.
How to prepare a paint for painting the wallpaper
Agree that it is extremely rarely worthwhile to paint white wallpaper with white paint. All without exception, water-based paints can be painted, and the variety of shades is really great. Paint color can be specified by the supplier; On the one hand, this is an ideal option: blending in a vibrating machine allows for an evenly distributed dye distribution. However, not the fact that the colors from the catalog satisfy the aesthetic needs of the customer, so many paint the paints for wallpaper on their own.
To do everything in your mind, it is desirable to get accurate electronic scales. If used for dosing pigment, this will help to achieve excellent color repeatability when mixing. Knowing the proportions of the base and the coloring concentrates will be especially useful if the paint is not sufficient.
Approximately one-third of the paint of each color should be drained into a separate tank and diluted with boiled water in an amount not exceeding 25% by volume. The resulting composition is necessary for the creation of a primer layer, which will provide a solid initial impregnation, reduce absorbency, when applied to the base layer, and will qualitatively paint the wallpaper base. Mix the paint with water or abrasive need carefully and necessarily manually.
