According to journalists ProfiDom.com.ua, building insulation is used for insulation of buildings and structures at ambient temperature. Raw materials for the production of building insulation are: glass fights, quartz sand, limestone, dolomite and basalt rocks up to 30%, blast furnace and metallurgical slags.

The resulting construction thermal insulation has short fibers and a low acidity modulus 1,4-1,6 (DSTU B V.2.7-94-2000), hygroscopic, does not withstand vibration, has low chemical resistance and low mechanical strength.

Phenol-formaldehyde resins are used as binder additives. (International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARI) PRESS RELEASE No. 153 dated June 15, 2004 classified formaldehyde as a substance causing cancer in humans.)

Emulsions of silicones, technical and mineral oils are used to give water-repellent properties. When laying such a thermal insulation on high-temperature surfaces, the binder blows off at a temperature from +100 to + 200 ° C.

The effect of temperature and vibration leads to the destruction of the thermal insulation layer (sinking), the increase of thermal conductivity on the insulated equipment, causing heat loss. Taking into account the low performance, the use of building thermal insulation in the objects of thermal power engineering and industrial equipment is impractical.

Technical thermal insulation
In turn, as journalists from ProfiDom.com.ua point out, it is used to isolate thermal communications and high-temperature equipment at the facilities of thermal power engineering, mining and metallurgical complex, coke chemistry.

The raw material for the production of technical insulation is natural basalt.

The technical insulation is chemically inert, has a low thermal conductivity and a high acidity modulus of 4.2-4.5. Technical thermal insulation is made in the form of embossing mattes, cardboard, cords, with a constant temperature of application from 450 ° С to 850 ° С.

It withstands high temperatures and vibration over a long period of time without changing the original properties and characteristics. Taking into account absence of phenol-formaldehyde binders and hydrophobic additives, technical isolation from basalt, at heating, does not emit harmful substances.
